NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM)

The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), developed by Dr. Laurence Heller, is a therapeutic approach designed to heal attachment, relational, and developmental trauma, also known as Complex PTSD (C-PTSD). It addresses adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their long-term effects. NARM combines traditional psychotherapy with body-mind approaches within a relational context, utilizing both top-down (interpreting new sensory information based on existing knowledge and expectations) and bottom-up (receiving sensory information, sending it to the brain, and analyzing it to create perception) methods.

NARM helps clients establish a healthy connection between their body and mind while improving self-regulation. It focuses on the present, helping clients understand how early relational patterns and attachment dynamics shape their current experiences and behaviors. NARM is an active process of inquiry into clients’ relational and adaptive survival styles, empowering them to experience agency.

In a NARM session, we will help you focus on what you truly desire for yourself in the present moment and identify what stands in the way of accessing that desire. We also orient towards your strengths to enhance your capacity for self-regulation, connection, resilience, and aliveness.
