Family Therapy

Each person in a family system can both influence and be influenced by other family members. For example, an individual’s problems (such as substance abuse, depression, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, behavioral issues, medical problems, and schizophrenia) can affect their interactions and relationships with their family members, potentially having adverse effects on their lives.

Families can be impacted by various traumatic events, including divorce or separation, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse (including domestic violence), emotional or physical neglect, the loss or death of a loved one, financial struggles, mental health issues within the family, and religious or cultural challenges. When families experience a traumatic event, each member will react differently. Communication and relationship issues may arise if family members do not understand each other’s experience or perspective or if they fail to take accountability for actions that may have contributed to the trauma. As a result, the family member who is the victim of the trauma might feel misunderstood and isolated, especially if they hear from others that they need to “hurry up and move past their trauma.”

In family therapy, we can help your family:

  • Strengthen bonds and relationships
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Learn each member’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Develop and maintain healthy boundaries
  • Learn effective ways to communicate with each other
  • Prepare for an important life change, such as separation, divorce, remarriage, or birth of a new family member
  • Cope with the loss of a family member or a traumatic experience
  • Build trust, empathy, respect, and understanding among family members
  • Change dysfunctional family patterns

If you and your family are struggling now to overcome conflicts, please contact us today to help your family build a strong, healthy unit!
